The protected natural area has a high biodiversity of flora, mainly due to the variety of its environments, the geographical position it occupies and the environmental conditions of the area.
We can differentiate three plant formations:
• Dunes: European marram grass (Ammophila arenaria), Cretan trefoil (Lotus creticus) and Sea Daffodil (Pancratium maritimum). In the more stable dunes we can find species such as needles grass (Stipa tenacissima), albardine (Lygeum spartum), lentiscus (Pistacia lentiscus), black hawthorn (Rhamnus lycioides) or Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis). It is important to highlight the presence of dune sabina (Juniperus phoenicea subsp. Turbinata) as the only dune sabinar in the Region of Murcia.
• Saladar: with plants such as statice (Limonium cossonianum), samphires (Sarcocornia fruticosa) or Arthrocnemum macrostachyum.
• Arenales: sea European searocket (Cakile maritima) and sea holly (Eryngium maritimum).
It is important to highlight the presence of the Posidonia oceanica meadows, an endemic Mediterranean aquatic plant of great ecological importance since it is a great refuge for marine fauna and an important carbon dioxide sink.
