This Friday, the 2nd of July, the LIFE Salinas Project’s environmental education campaign will commence. The campaign is organized by the Directorate of Natural Environment in collaboration with the City Council of San Pedro del Pinatar.
Throughout the summer, activities will be held on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in the morning, completely free and suitable for all audiences.

The activities consist of talks, games and workshops to be held at the ‘Las Salinas’ Visitor Center every Friday and some Saturdays.
In addition, the campaign offers three types of guided tours:
– Flamenco Saturdays. The meeting point will be the traffic roundabout of the flamingos at 9:30. From there, we will walk along the banks of the salt ponds to the Torre Derribada beach. Our monitor will identify the birds we see that morning, and tell you about the different procedures that the Project is undergoing in order to improve the conservation of birds. We will also tell you about pirates and the pine forest of Coterillo, and our last stop will be the Torre Derribada beach, to rest and learn about the importance of the Posidonia oceanica plant.
– Bike Sundays. You will really enjoy this route. The meeting is at 9:30 at the Molino de Quintín and consists of a bike ride along the Paseo de la Mota to the Molino de la Calcetera (or to Las Encañizadas if you feel up to it). On your right hand side you will see a calm Mar Menor, to your left the birds waking up in their salt ponds… Our monitor will tell you about the properties of the mud baths, how the salt industry has managed to maintain the biodiversity and conservation of the Regional Park, and of course we will talk about the areas historical heritage.
– Beach Mondays. You may know the Torre Derribada and La Llana beaches very well, but they hide many secrets that we are going to tell you about: pirates, habitats, flora and fauna. In addition, we will tell you why the dunes are so important and what ecosystem services are. We will meet at the Coterillo parking lot at 9:30 am.
