Creation of a quality seal for salt produced in Natura 2000 Network areas

One of the specific objectives of the LIFE Salinas Project is the design and implementation of a quality and environmental protection certificate for salt from salt works, especially those included in the Natura 2000 Network (Action E3).

The main objective of this certificate of good practices is to promote the need for other salt producers to consider the compatible development of their activities with the conservation of biodiversity. The techniques, methods, experiences and results obtained will be shared with all those interested during development or after its completion, and this certification can be extended to salt producers both national and from all EU countries.

In order for this information to reach as many people as possible, the evolution of the study and development of this certificate has already been presented, to date, at three prestigious congresses:

  • Last October 2020, the communication “The certification of salt as a product, process and landscape: a tool to assess NCP of saline wetlands” was presented at the Limnology 2020 Congress, held online from Murcia. The communication was signed by Katia Hueso, from IPAISAL; Gustavo Ballesteros and Renato Neves, from Mae d’Agua.
  • Last October 2021, the communication “Salt quality certification as a tool for the protection of its natural and cultural values” was presented at the XXIII edition of the INCUNA International Working Sessions on Industrial Heritage “Taste in heritage”, held in Gijón. The communication was signed by Katia Hueso and Jesús-F. Carrasco, from IPAISAL; Gustavo Ballesteros and Renato Neves, from Mae d’Agua.
  • Last October 2021, the communication “A certificate system for salt production in solar evaporation salinas” was presented at the 14th International Congress of the International Society for Salt Lake Research (ISSLR), held online from Murcia. The communication was signed by Katia Hueso, from IPAISAL; Gustavo Ballesteros and Renato Neves, from Mae d’Agua.
