Volunteering programme activities continue under the LIFE Salinas Project

Last week 30 volunteers participated in two activities within the volunteering programme of the LIFE Salinas Project, organised by ANSE and Pinatar Natura.

During the day, a talk was held regarding the problems associated with invasive alien species in the Regional Park of Salinas y Arenas de San Pedro del Pinatar and 450 kg of the species Carpobrotus acinaciformis were removed from the dunes of El Mojón Beach.

A nocturnal census was also carried out to find out the population of the common chameleon (Chamaeleo chamaeleon) and its evolution within the Regional Park. The chameleon is the only arboreal reptile present in Europe and is in an expansion phase in the Region of Murcia. The sand dunes of the San Pedro del Pinatar Regional Park are home to the highest density of chameleons in the whole of the Iberian Peninsula. During the census, 13 individuals of this species were located within a sampling time of 35 minutes.
