The LIFE Salinas project co-financed by the European Commission within the LIFE program celebrates two years since its inception.
Our activity takes place in the Regional Park of the Salinas and Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar and the main objective of LIFE Salinas is the conservation of the Audouin’s gull (Larus audouinii) and the priority habitats 1510 *: Mediterranean salt steppes (Limonietalia) and 2250 *: Littoral dunes with Juniperus spp. in the SAC and SPA ES0000175 “Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar”.
In addition to 1 priority species and 2 priority habitats, other species are favored, which without be the objective of the Project, they share breeding habitats with Audouin’s gull, which confers a value added. Other habitats included in the Habitat Directive are also favored, increasing the integration and ecosystem cohesion of the SAC and SPA.
LIFE Salinas involves the public sector (local and regional administration), the private sector (the company Salinera Española, S.A. that leads the project), an NGO (the Association of Southeast Naturalists), the technical consultancy Mãe d’água and the University of Murcia in the conservation of biodiversity, the economic and sustainable use of natural resources.
