During the XXIV Spanish and VII Iberian Ornithological Congress held in Cadiz between the 13th and the 17th of November, our co-worker, Diego Navarro Sarró, presented the results of his Master’s Dissertation entitled: “Population dynamics of the wintering waterbird community in the wetlands of the Mar Menor (Region of Murcia, 1972-2018)”. In the monitoring carried out in the wetlands of Las Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar, Salinas de Marchamalo, Las Encañizadas and Laguna del Mar Menor, the evolution and trends of total bird populations have been analysed.

In the specific case of Las Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar, a global increase in wintering populations has been observed; however, in Las Encañizadas, a decline in endangered species has been noticed.
For the development of his work, Diego Navarro was provided with some information from members of the LIFE-Salinas Project and the Asociación de Naturalistas del Sureste (ANSE).
