Ecosystem services are the goods, benefits and/or services provided by ecosystems: sustenance such as salt, pollination, protection against floods or storms, etc.
In September 2020, one of the largest insurance companies in the world, Swiss Re Group, created and published an Index of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services to warn against the economic risks derived from the destruction of nature, stating in its headlines that 55% of the world’s GDP depends on the services sustained by biodiversity and ecosystems.
Within the actions of the LIFE Salinas Project, the University of Murcia studies and identifies the ecosystem services of the Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar Regional Park, and analizes through surveys how these are perceived by all the agents and social groups involved (residents and tourists, personnel linked to the general or local Administration, environmental or sports associations, business people, entrepreneurs, workers and other people associated with the tourism industry; and cultural and scientific agents).
In 2019, 262 pre-test surveys were conducted that guided the writing of the final surveys, in which one can participate via the following link: https://forms.gle/8Km8LUN1htikBre36
The results of the first studies on ecosystem services of the Regional Park have already been published and can be read here: https://www.investigacionesgeograficas.com/article/view/16867?fbclid=IwAR3ft723F6_MWD7lScEuUedE0qM3W1009scEuUedE0qM3W1009sqrY8
