Between the 4th and the 8th of February, a technical study was carried out to determine the substrate nature of the ponds located in the northern part of The Salinas. The purpose was to determine the appropriate location of the new dikes included in action C1. This new “green infrastructure” will achieve several objectives:
On the one hand, the dikes with scarce vegetation cover increase the nesting habitat of the Audouin’s gull (Larus audouinii) and other species included in the Annex I of the Birds Directive, on the contrary of the Yellow-legged gull (Larus michahellis), which prefers a higher percentage of vegetation. These flecks will be created with their own substrates from hot pools whose salts hinder the development of vegetation.
On the other hand, the approximately 1,800 metres of conditioned dikes will help the maintenance of the heating pools, increasing their resistance to storms as well as favouring the circulation of water and increasing the population of aquatic macroinvertebrates.
