Advances in the design of a quality certificate for Regional Park salt

Katia Hueso, coordinator of IPAISAL: Instituto del Patrimonio y los Paisajes de la Sal (Institute of Heritage and Salt Landscapes) and consultant for one of the project partners, Mae d’Água, visited the Regional Park of Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar last Friday, October 4. The purpose of the visit was to know in depth the production processes in relation to the Regional Park regulations. Along with by Gustavo Ballesteros, project coordinator, and Julio Fernández, Manager of Salinera Española S.A., she could appreciate the salt harvest remained after the heavy storms that took place in the area a few weeks ago.

This visit concludes the fieldwork of the first phase regarding E3 Action: The study of the production processes of the four pilot salt mines (San Pedro del Pinatar and Ibiza in Spain; Samouco and Castro Marim in Portugal).

The action will culminate with the design of a certificate for those salt mines whose production complies the regulations related to nature conservation in Natura 2000 Network spaces.
