On Monday 13 April, colleagues from the University of Murcia who were monitoring the avifauna species in the Regional Park of Las Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar, found a specimen of Audouin’s gull (Larus audouinii) entangled in a fishing line that had been swallowed. The seagull was rapidly released and transferred to the Wildlife Recovery Centre located in El Valle.
The seagull became entangled in a fishing line, usually used in sport fishing, and it was quite weak at the time of its rescue. This type of line is very dangerous for the fauna, since they can rarely be released.

However, the good news regarding this rescue is that, during the monitoring, it could be confirmed that the number of Audouin’s gull pairs has increased to a total of 428 at present.
