World Migratory Bird Day within the LIFE-Salinas Project

On October the 6th, a scientific bird ringing was carried out in the Regional Park of Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar on the occasion of the World Migratory Bird Day. The activity, developed by an expert bird ringer and organised by the Association of Southeast Naturalists (ANSE) along with the Park Information Service, was attended by 34 participants from all ages. At the same time, small routes were designed to birdwatch the waterfowl species. Among the ringed birds there were: Common kingfisher (Alcedo atthis), Common blackbird (Turdus merula), Lesser whitethroat (Sylvia curruca) and European serin (Serinus serinus), while in the salt lakes we could find Greater flamingos (Phoenicopterus roseus), Eurasian coot (Fulica atra), Turnstone (Arenaria interpres) and the Audoin’s gull (Larus audouinii), among others. This activity, coordinated by SEO/Birdlife in Spain, aims to raise awareness of bird conservation issues.
